AMC Framework: Term Requirements for Interns and PGY2s

Annual Requirements at a Glance

The AMC Framework requires all Prevocational Doctors in the Framework to complete certain assessments and tasks in order to successfully complete each term and achieve certification at the end of the clinical year.

The only exception is your relieving term (non-service term) where no assessments are required. We highly recommend continuing to complete EPAs during this time to prevent excessive workload in your other three terms.

Beginning of Term Discussion

Under the National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training, PGY1s & 2s are required to meet with their term supervisor at the beginning of each term to:

1. Review the term description and agree on learning objectives and assessments
2. Discuss learning outcomes to focus on during the term
3. Complete the Beginning of Term Discussion on your CLA Portfolio

• If you cannot meet your assigned Term Supervisor, you may meet with another consultant or Fellow in the unit
• The Beginning of Term Discussion is a mutual obligation — you are expected to approach your supervisor, and they are expected to provide the conditions for the discussion
• Is it compulsory? Yes — it is part of the AMC Framework requirements

Mid Term Assessments

Completed around week 5 of each term. Mid Term assessments are intended to:

• Provide timely feedback on your progress
• Identify any learning needs that have arisen during the term
• Discuss strategies to effectively address them

Mid Term assessments can be completed with a registrar and sent to the Term Supervisor to sign off on. Further information on the CLA ePortfolio page.

End of Term Assessments

Completed by your Term Supervisor, who will evaluate your progress in meeting the learning objectives established at the beginning of the term or during the mid-term assessment. Further information on the CLA ePortfolio page.

Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs)

EPAs are routine clinical tasks that an Intern or PGY2 carries out under supervision. They provide opportunities for regular, constructive feedback, supporting the ongoing development of clinical knowledge and skills.

• EPA assessment process — Read carefully

• The EPA assessment involves an observer directly supervising you while completing an activity
• You are required to complete one EPA 1 per rotation plus one EPA 2/3 or 4
