For a young Health Service we have a lot of research going on!
Major areas include:
- Cardiovascular and Vascular research (Peter Barlis, Bill van Gaal and Judy Savige)
- Aged Care research (Dr Carol Chong)
- Colorectal Cancer (Dr Karen Barclay)
- Inherited Renal Disease (Prof Judy Savige, Dr Yanyan Wang)
- Bioinformatics (A/Prof Des Parkin, Dr Hayat Dagher)
- Oncology (Dr Shane White)
There is also research in Falls, Pressure Sores and Improving Patient Services.
Many medical students have been involved in these research projects, as AMS students or as students in their surgical term working with Ms Barclay. In addition, Northern Health has approx. 20 M Sc or PhD students at any one time. There is a weekly research seminar series in the University Department and we have had a number of international visitors to our Department.
Northern Health provides a number of small grants annually to allow staff to undertake research. Northern Health also hosts an Annual Research week with more than 50 abstracts and posters.
